How to Put on a Wig

FOR PEOPLE WITH BIOLOGICAL HAIR

People with hair should always wear a wig cap underneath their wig to keep their hair tucked away neatly and evenly. A fishnet wig cap is recommended for people who have hair, as the thin fishnet material is not too bulky and will allow an even distribution of hair to lay flat against the head.

To put on a wig cap and wig:

1. Sit your client down onto a chair facing a mirror and stand behind your client.

2. Pull your client’s hair back into a ponytail.

3. Next, carefully pull the fishnet wig cap over your client’s head, so that it sits around their neck.

4. Pull the wig cap up and over your client’s face so that the elastic band of the wig cap sits along their hairline and the netting is around their natural hair.

5. Now wrap and shape your client’s natural hair evenly across their head. Tie the opening of the wig cap to secure it.

6. Now turn the wig over and then hold it out in front of your client. The hairline should be facing your client.

7. Place your thumbs on the adjustable tabs at the nape of the wig and gently pull the wig onto your client’s head like a cap, keeping your client’s ears free.

8. Pull the wig hairline up onto your client’s own natural hairline.

9. Holding the ear tabs, adjust the position of the wig to ensure the wig is on your client’s head comfortably and securely. Remember not to pull or tug the lace front as the lace is very delicate.

10. Finally, use your fingers and a comb to help shape the wig into your client’s desired style.

FOR PEOPLE WITH SHORT EXISTING HAIR OR TOTAL HAIR LOSS

A nylon wig cap is recommended for people with short hair, thinning hair or complete hair loss.

To apply a wig cap and wig:

1. Sit your client down onto a chair facing a mirror and stand behind your client.

2. Now put the wig cap or a hair topper on to your client’s head and adjust its position so that it’s comfortable and covers your client’s whole scalp.

3. Turn the wig over and then hold it out in front of your client. The hairline should be facing your client.

4. Place your thumbs on the adjustable tabs at the nape and gently pull the wig on to your client’s head like a cap, keeping your client’s ears free.

5. Pull the wig hairline up on to your client’s own natural hairline. If your client has total hair loss, pull the wig hairline to where your client’s hairline would be to create a new hairline for them.

6. Holding the ear tabs, adjust the position of the wig to ensure the wig is on comfortably and securely. Remember not to pull or tug the lace front when adjusting. Instead, hold the wigs’ ear tabs to adjust and form to the shape of the temples.

7. Finally, use your fingers and a comb to help shape the wig into your client’s desired style.
